From a personal and family perspective, we suggest the following...

DEFINE: Clarifying Your Family's Goal and Who It Impacts

Start by sitting down as a family to clearly define what you're trying to do and who it’s for. Is your goal to spend more quality time together? To eat healthier by growing your own food? To earn a little extra income on the side? Whatever it is, be specific about what your family is setting out to do—and who benefits from it (your immediate family, neighborhood, community, etc.). The clearer your goal, the easier it will be to stay focused and get everyone on board.

ANALYZE: Learning from Others and Finding Your Family’s Strengths

Take time to look at what other families or individuals are doing in a similar space. For example, if you're starting a family garden, see how neighbors do theirs. If you’re considering selling baked goods or crafts, research what others are selling, where they sell it, and what people love about their work. Then talk as a family about what you can offer that's special—your unique twist, talent, or advantage that makes your version meaningful or different. That’s your family’s value!

MODEL: Mapping Out How It Will Work in Real Life

Now, build a simple plan together: How will this actually work day to day? What will you need? How much time or money will it take? Will you take turns doing certain tasks? Will kids be involved in any specific way? This is about figuring out the structure of your plan—what needs to be done, who’s doing it, how much it will cost, and if any money might come in (or savings might be made). You’re modeling your plan to fit into your real lives.

PLAN: Creating a Detailed Family Plan of Action

This step is about putting it all together in one clear plan: your goals, timeline, responsibilities, budget, tools/supplies needed, and a communication plan. This is your family’s "blueprint" for moving forward. It helps everyone stay on the same page. If your project involves the community or outside support, this plan can also be something you share to get help or funding. It doesn’t have to be fancy—just complete and clear.

PERMISSIONS: Making Sure Everything’s Good to Go

Depending on your goal, there may be rules or approvals you need to consider. For example, do you need permission from your landlord to use the backyard? Do you need city approval for a garage sale or food stand? If your goal involves kids selling online, are there safety rules or age limits? Do a quick check to make sure everything you’re doing is allowed—and safe.

SET UP: Preparing Your Space and Tools

Once your plan is approved and ready, it’s time to get things in place! That might mean clearing space in the garage, setting up a family calendar, buying materials, or organizing supplies. Make the space comfortable and fun for everyone involved—this is where your family’s vision comes to life.

LAUNCH: Getting Started and Sharing Your Project

This is the exciting part! You’re ready to begin. Whether it’s planting your first seeds, hosting your first sale, or launching your family YouTube channel, make sure to tell the right people about it. Use social media, word-of-mouth, or community boards. Set a launch day, take pictures, and celebrate the start of something new. And keep reviewing your plan as you go so you can improve and adjust together.

🧭 Why This Process Matters for Families

  • Clarity: Everyone knows the goal and their role.

  • Confidence: You’re not guessing—you’ve done your research and planning.

  • Connection: Family members work together and share responsibility.

  • Growth: Whether it’s personal growth, learning new skills, or bonding, your family gains something valuable beyond the end result.

This process turns an idea into a real, meaningful experience—not just something you do, but something you grow together.
